Over the course of their recent reunion tour, the Replacements have been working up a cover of the Jackson 5's 1969 hit "I Want You Back." As the band played their first New York show in 23 years on Friday night, they showed the progress they've made on it. Although their version of the song lasts just over a minute and isn't exactly polished, frontman Paul Westerberg declared to the audience that the band members were proud of themselves for having learned the riff, according to Brooklyn Vegan. Magnificent Bastards: The Best of the Replacements Along with the Jacksons and a whirlwind cover of Chick Berry's "Maybellene," there were, of course, plenty of Replacements classics in the 29-song set at Queens' Forest Hills Stadium, including "Take Me Down to the Hospital," "Bastards of Young," "Can't Hardly Wait" (see below) and "Alex Chilton." The Replacements reunion tour, featuring original members Westerberg and bassist Tommy Stinson accompanied by guitarist Dave Minehan and drummer Josh Freese, launched in August 2013 after a 22-year hiatus. In an interview with Rolling Stone nearly a year before the reunion took shape, Westerberg spoke about the potential motivations. "It was never about making money," he said. "If we can have a lot of fun, and make a lot of people happy, and make a lot of money – which means making a lot of other people money – then OK, I guess that's spiritually and economically sound." The tour takes the Replacements to Tempe, Arizona for the Summer Ends Festival next weekend and then onto the Austin City Limits Music Festival in Texas in October. Sir Mix-a-Lot revealed his feelings about Nicki Minaj's "Baby Got Back"-sampling "Anaconda" and a whole lot more during a Reddit Ask Me Anything session on Saturday. "It's amazing how people - I guess maybe because they're not in the industry - but how people think I should be mad about the song," he said in regards to Minaj's single. "I think it's cool, she took part of the song, she made a Nicki Minaj song. I love the track, I have fun listening to the track, it's crazy as hell. Sir Mix-a-Lot Raps With Seattle Symphony "For a guy who likes butts, how can I look at the video and say I don't like it?" he continued. "I say more power to it. Go Nicki Go!" In addition to providing generous technical advice on both production and booty matters, the Good Sir Mix answered a wide range of questions regarding his surprising hobbies, musical interests and career aspirations. Here are a few of the highlights. His mother disapproved of an early career goal."When I was growing up there were some pimps that would have been my heroes, but my mom wouldn't allow it. I used to look at pimps and be like 'Wow...that's what I want to do.' SMACK! I won't allow it! said my mom. So my mom [was my hero], definitely." His "recipe" for buttermilk biscuits sounds hazardous."Here we go:Start carDrive to nearest chicken restaurant in townGet six pack of extra butterEatThat's my recipe, right there." He thinks Macklemore has done a lot of good for hip-hop."You know, I love where Seattle hiphop has gone. Of course, all hiphop is like that - Seattle hiphop used to be all about battling, and I thought we needed to be a bit more together to help that flourish. SO I think guys like the Blue Scholars, Common Market, obviously Macklemore, I think Macklemore in my opinion - not only did he take Seattle music forward, but he really elevated the conversation in hiphop. He talked about things that were taboo. Like homosexuality, it was almost like dinosaurs, when it comes to homosexuality hiphop was almost like dinosaurs, something we were uncomfortable talking about, and Macklemore opened that door - beautifully, I might add." His dream collaborators are Madonna, Korn and Gary Numan."I was gonna say Prince, but that might be difficult, he would like take over the studio." The "Baby Got Back" video almost made him blush the first time he saw it."It's kind of weird because that was the first major production I'd been to . . . so to see the finished project was a little surprising, and as an artist - I was shocked and flattered, I almost blushed, not that I was ashamed of it, but it put all eyes on me, which was very uncomfortable initially (still is, a little bit)." He's proud of his legacy as the guy who likes big butts."It doesn't bother me at all. Here's my thing: I see a lot of artists that have hit records. And then for some reason, after they've gotten all that money from the record, they go on a campaign to diss the very record that made them rich. I think that's ignorant. That's one of the stupidest business models I've ever seen in my life. Imagine this: McDonalds comes out with a commercial saying 'We hate hamburgers.' It makes no sense!" His hotline is no longer in service."1-900-MIX-A-LOT has been disconnected permanently! We didn't do the age limit thing, so we got kicked out of there." His famous candor may have diminished with his advancing age."And as far as liking big butts and being honest, that was the case when I was young, and as you get older, you have to fib a little bit, standards get a little lower. You might meet a girl, her butt might sag a little bit, but you tell her it's nice anyways. As you get older, you can't be picky." He's got an intense electronics hobby."When I say 'electronics' I don't mean that I sit around with filaments, I build high-voltage power supplies. I've been dabbling with electronics since I was 13 years old, I don't mean digital stuff, which is easy, I mean actual electronics, wiring, capacitors, a lot of inductors, creating my own inductors, building transformers, I've been doing that since I was a kid. I also run a CNC machine. I love that thing too. It's a computer numeric control, that's what it's called." He believes there's hope for the less posteriorly gifted."I have one word of wisdom, well, 3 words: heavy. weight. squats." An artist in Liverpool has created a statue inspired by the title character in the Beatles' 1966 song "Eleanor Rigby," crafted of £1 million pounds in old bank notes. As the Liverpool Echo reports, the sculpture has gone up on display at the Museum of Liverpool in the Beatles' hometown.  Book Excerpt: Paul McCartney Goes From 'Eleanor Rigby' to 'Silly Love Songs' and Back Again The artist, Leonard Brown, said that life-sized statue is intended to highlight the relationship between wealth and poverty. "The sculpture serves to show people that money isn’t the only way to make you happy, or indeed 'buy you love' and we should all be thankful for what we have," he said. "There are people in every town and city like Eleanor Rigby who live a lonely life, and whose only worldly goods are kept in the bags that they carry." The used £5, £10 and £20 notes that make up the sculpture were supplied by the Bank of England in the form of shredded pellets, some of which fill the chest cavity, and some of which were further broken down and molded over the figure's steel frame. Although Brown has added a new twist to the imagery by using the shredded bank notes, his is not the first sculptor to give material form to the Beatles' creation. In 1982, British entertainer Tommy Steele designed and erected a bronze statue of Rigby sitting on a stone bench on Stanley Street in Liverpool, dedicated to "all the lonely people." Brown's new sculpture will be on display at the Museum of Liverpool until January 2015.
