Lady Gaga and Chic frontman Nile Rodgers have teamed up in a revamped version of Chic's 1978 hit 'I Want Your Love', with Gaga providing the vocals.
The song and video have been produced to promote Tom Ford's Spring/ Summer 2016 fashion line, with the video (which also features Gaga) very much focused on the clothes. There's an obvious nod to 'Soul Train' in the way the video is set up, however.
The video is directed by Nick Knight, and designer Tom Ford has released a statement explaining the story behind the track and the video:
"Instead of having a traditional show this season, I wanted to think about how to present a collection in a cinematic way that was designed from its inception to be presented online," he said. "I have always loved Soul Train which used to be on TV in the Seventies; as it was as much about the clothes as the music, I asked Nile Rodgers to collaborate on a new version of one of his great hits from that time, 'I Want Your Love,' and worked with Gaga to record the vocals. I then staged a full show in Los Angeles and filmed it with Gaga on the runway."
Lady Gaga has tweeted about the video, thanking those involved:
.@tomford Love you Tom, love you Nick. love you Nile. Beautiful day filming w/ 3 talented, brilliant, & CHIC gentlemen. #TomFord #TFWSS16— Lady Gaga (@ladygaga) October 2, 2015
Over recent weeks, Lady Gaga has talked about her love of heavy music, focusing in particular on Iron Maiden, and asking that fans compare her to Maiden and not Madonna. She's also threatened to sue the makers of breast milk ice cream Baby Gaga, and launched a new video for 'Til It Happens To You', dealing with sexual assault.
